I had such a great Christmas--I got new stuffed animals, chew toys, balls, and more! I hope you all had just as nice a holiday, and are getting ready for an as-good-if-not-better 2009!

The first dog
After the election this week, there has been a lot of talk about what kind of dog the President's family will get. Personally, I think labs are a wonderful breed, but I guess if you're allergic we're not a good match. Whatever kind of dog they get, I hope they go with a shelter dog. If I do say so myself we are pretty cool animals, no matter what breed we are!

Fall has fallen
This morning me and the human went to Central Park and it is definitely fall. We saw a big stack of pumpkins, lots of trees changing color, and guys setting up bleachers for the New York City Marathon that happens next weekend. I like this weather--it feels good to have my fur coat on when there's a chill in the air.

The bright lights of Broadway
Me and the human went one morning to check out the new glowing staircase in Times Square. She thought maybe we could climb it and see the sights before the crowds of regular people showed up. But they are not open 24 hours--the guard said they don't open until 10 am. I thought this was the city that never sleeps but I guess some things sleep later than even me!

A busy Saturday
My humans were on a tear today! First they took me for a walk that lasted 2.5 HOURS, including a stop at the vet for another vaccination. While we were out we went to a bunch of stores, including one with a glass elevator I used to hate but am now getting used to a little. Then we got home and they cleaned and cleaned...and they gave me a bath, too. Fortunately we all laid on the couches for a while after that--me and one of the humans even fell asleep. We were worn out!

Out for a walk

This past weekend
Spicy!
Me and my human went for a big walk this morning in Times Square, which was more crowded than you would think at 6:30 am. We saw all sorts of sights, like TV vans outside a big office building, a man in a suit wearing a cowboy hat, and I tried to eat a piece of jalepeno pepper off of the sidewalk. The human took it out of my mouth before I could swallow, but it still burned my tongue a little--I don't know if I like spicy food.

I love chicken.
This was the weekend of the chicken barbecue my humans go to every year. It's out near the beach, and three years ago, this kind of chicken was the first human food my people gave me. If only they had known what a slippery slope that would be. Mixed in with my dog food this year, I had not only chicken for dinner, but some corn as well. It's only a matter of time before they give up this whole "dog food" charade and feed me in the manner to which I have become accustomed.

Mirror, mirror
This morning me and one of the humans went for another of our semi-regular big walks, and I saw something that totally freaked me out. There was a big square thing against a tree--and there was a dog in it that looked just like me! And a human that looked just like mine! But when I got closer it didn't smell like a dog. I looked around the entire thing--no dog. No human. Nothing. It was so weird.

Why I've been missing!
My humans have been running around a lot lately, and last week they left me at home with my friend Jeff while they went on a big trip. They came back with two new toys for me, though, so I guess that was OK. We are also having big computer problems, which they need to sort out too. I'll be back to posting my latest adventures as soon as I can!

The news of late
There really hasn't been any. One of my humans is away for a day or two, and he took the camera, so my post about this past weekend will have to wait til the pictures come back to us. In the meantime, me and the other human have been taking some good walks lately around the neighborhood and in Central Park. I've been eating well. I met some new people. And that's about it. I'll report more soon, but just wanted to say hi to you all for now!

Father's Day Weekend
This weekend we had plenty of adventure. Yesterday we went to see our pack up in Massachusetts which was great--I got to eat a lot, and I played with a puppy. We drove home through thunder and lightning, but I didn't know it. This is what I did:
Then this morning me and my friend Mia got to go to the Palisades. We walked and walked all over rocks and vines and fallen trees and streams, and then we finally got to a little beach. It was all worth it!

A book review!
A nice lady sent me an e-mail asking if I'd like to review this book on my blog--I have hit the big time! So she sent it to us and my human has helped me check it out.
I think this is a good book for a new dog owner--there is a lot of helpful information about how to choose a dog, how to take care of your dog, and how to train your dog. And tons of neat facts like I have only half as many tastebuds as a human does.
What it's not great for is finding out what might be wrong with your dog if your dog is doing something weird. For example, if your dog has tummy problems and you go to that section of the book, it will tell you all about how it got upset and what it looks like, but not what to do to about it. That said, if your vet diagnoses your dog with something, then you'll be able to look it up and read all about it, so that could be really useful.
In short--it's a big book and very smart looking, and it might be a good addition to the library for a new pet owner who wants to know everything about their new friend!

Memorial Day Weekend
We had a beautiful long weekend, the pack and I. First things first: we went to the beach a lot!
Then I made a new friend: a puggle named Lacey! We played and played until we were pooped.
Then me and the humans took a trip to a town called Greenport, and we walked around. It was hot out, so I decided to cool off at the beach...
All in all, it was the perfect start to summer. I need to catch up on my sleep!

Ninth Avenue Food Festival
This weekend, two humans who are part of the pack came to visit us. It was great to see them! One of the best parts was when we all went to the Ninth Avenue Food Festival. My humans took me to this last year, and I remember it smelled so good. But this year was even better: there were a lot of clumsy humans in attendance so I picked up a LOT of scraps off the ground. And then I got MY OWN HOT DOG!!!! It was so good.

Family news
My humans told me that we are going to have a new member of the family join us this fall. I started to get worried--this should really only be a one-dog household, after all. But they explained that the baby that's showing up would be human, not another dog. Talk about a big relief! This might be fun.

This week
I had some tummy troubles this week, everyone, so no good photos to put up on the blog. I mostly laid around and went for a few walks here and there. The weather has been sunny and warm, and when I lay on the bed during the day, the breeze feels so nice. Flower petals even float in through the window from the trees outside. I am feeling much better today, and this weekend me and the humans are going to go to one of our other pack houses near the beach. I hope it's not too cold to go swimming. That would be a nice way to get back in the swing of things!
